Roy Harvey Obituary

Roy Weston Harvey NEWPORT NEWS - Roy Weston Harvey, 89, passed away Nov. 21, 2009. Born in Garrett County, Maryland, he had been a Peninsula resident since 1953. He was a retired colonel in the Army Reserve, having served throughout World War II and during the Korean conflict. He was also a retired NYLIC agent with 25 years of service. He was a member of Lee Hall Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 61 years, Evelyn Miller Harvey. He is survived by his children, Stephen Harvey and wife Barbara of Staunton, and Carolyn (Kay) Williams and husband Wayne of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Amie Shields (Kevin) of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Harvey of Newport News, Krysta Swope (Frank) of Staunton, and Jonathan Williams of Suffolk; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hannah and Landon Shields, Kortni Harvey, and Ella Swope. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Weymouth Funeral Home, Newport News, with a funeral to follow in the funeral home chapel starting at noon. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk at 1:45 p.m.

Roy and I ball hawked together at Fort Eustis golf course many times. I have nothing but great memories of him and never heard an unkind word from him or about him. We are all poorer because he has gone from us.
