Richard Broun Obituary

Richard G. Broun VIRGINIA BEACH - Richard G. Broun, 88, passed away Nov. 22, 2009. A native of Norfolk, he was born May 12, 1921 to the late George and Ottilie Broun. Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired mechanical engineer working for only one company his entire career, Ingersol Rand Corp. Richard was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a member of Pi Delta Epsilon, Pi Tau Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. He was also a member of ASME and Haygood Memorial United Methodict Church. Richard loved photography, which became his professional hobby with photographs displayed in several museums including the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Kenneth O. Broun and his wife Vivian; and sister, Ethel B. Powell, all of Virginia Beach; two nieces, Patricia P. Taylor of Poquoson and Terry Lee Bauer of Virginia Beach; three nephews, Kenneth Broun Jr. of Virginia Beach, Joseph B. Powell of Texas and David R. Broun of Virginia Beach. A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haygood Memorial UMC.
