Elisabeth Nowell Obituary

Elisabeth K. Nowell VIRGINIA BEACH - Elisabeth Shaw "Betty" Kilpatrick Nowell, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Nov. 22, 2009. She was sick for several weeks, and peacefully passed away while sleeping at home. Born Aug. 27, 1921 in Philadelphia, to Dr. Percy and Elisabeth Shaw, she was a 1940 graduate of Steven's Girls School. That year she also married James Nelson Kilpatrick, a native of Northern Ireland. After his passing, she married the Rev. Dr. James H. Nowell of Norfolk in 1985. She is survived by four of her five children, the Rev. David J. Kilpatrick, the Rev. Dr. Ronald T. Kilpatrick, Jane Kilpatrick Harper and Karen Kilpatrick Anderson. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, many great- grandchildren and three stepchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, James H. Shaw; a daughter, Christine Kilpatrick Davies; and the Rev. Dr. Nowell. Betty truly loved and depended on Jesus. She eagerly participated in worship, sang in church choirs, signed hymns and led children's choirs. She was also very active in Bible study. She prayed constantly for her children. A memorial service will be led by the Rev. David Kilpatrick Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bible Broadcasting Network, P.O. Box 7300, Charlotte, NC 28241.

Though I am unable to come and be with you all, I do wish to express my condolances. As Jane's best friend, I did enjoy meeting and visiting/staying overnight at Betty's home. She was a gracious hostess. May God continue to support and comfort you. Elna
