Dane Ruth Obituary

Dane Michael Ruth VIRGINIA BEACH - Dane Michael Ruth, 58, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away July 20, 2009, at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born in Ephrata, Pa., Jan. 13, 1951, and moved to Pensacola in 1999 from Virginia Beach. He retired command master chief from NAS Pensacola, and worked for the Department of Defense from 2002 until 2008. He served his country in the United States Navy for 30 years before retiring. Dane was an avid hunter and golfer. He spent many happy hours driving his pontoon in the Escambia Bay with Dianne and his dogs. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2108, the VFW, American Legion and the Fleet Reserve. His mother and father, Paul and Florence Ruth preceded him in death, along with his daughter, Erica Ruth and brothers, Eugene Ruth and Ray Ruth. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Dianne Ruth; son, Brandon Ruth of Pahrump, Nev.; sister, Tammy De Remer of Reinholds, Pa.; six nieces and nephews; and stepdaughters, Jenny Barringer of Chesapeake and Anna Barringer of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Aaron Kelley, Rebecca Vasquez, Lauren Graf, Brandon Ruth Jr., Noelle Graf, Hunter Adams and Reagan Adams; and two great-grandchildren, Selena Vasquez and Ayanna Vasquez. Dane leaves behind his adoring dogs, Georgia and Shadow and his cats, Spice and Vanilla. The family received friends for visitation Thursday, July 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral was held Friday, July 31, at 1 p.m. in the Naval Aviation Chapel aboard NAS Pensacola, Chaplain Randall Ekstrom officiated. Burial followed with military honors in Barrancas National Cemetery at 2 p.m. A celebration of life was held at the Lighthouse Point Chief Petty Officers Club, NAS Pensacola, following the interment. Pallbearers were Chip Morris, Buddy Mogle, Kurt Schroder, Fred Eisenmann, George McCaffrey, and Brandon Ruth. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of Pensacola. Arrangements were made with Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola, Fla.
