Sallie Vann Obituary

Sallie Ann Fennell Vann PORTSMOUTH - Sallie Ann Fennell Vann, 86, formerly of the 300 block of Dwight Drive, entered eternal rest Nov. 27, 2009. She was affectionately called "Nannie" by her grandchildren and many others who adored her. Mrs. Vann was born in Ahoskie, N.C., to the late William and Watt Fennell Sr. She was educated through the Ahoskie public school system. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vann was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Clarence H. Vann Sr.; four sons, Joseph, Jesse, Dwayne and Kenneth; four brothers, Willis, Jesse, Stanley and Charlie; and two sisters, Mildred and Essie Mae. Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Christine Brown (Felton) of Chesapeake, Sallie Turner of (Clinton) and Wilma Vass (Larry), both of Portsmouth, and Valerie Lamb (Thaddaeus) of Suffolk; two sons, Clarence Vann Jr. of North Carolina and Reginald Vann (Brenda) of Portsmouth; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Vann of Portsmouth; a sister, Annie Louise Melton; and a brother, William Fennell Jr., both of Hampton; and a brother-in- law, Jesse D. Vann (Esther) of New York; 20 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Leoncio and the staffs of DaVita Dialysis Center of Portsmouth and Carrington Place of Chesapeake. A celebration of Mrs. Vann's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, with Bishop Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. officiating. Viewing will begin today at Corpew Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Vann Family Cemetery, Ahoskie. The family will be receiving guests at 3113 Camelot Blvd., Chesapeake.
