Frederica Hartnett Obituary

Frederica S. Hartnett NORFOLK - Frederica Scherberger Hartnett passed away Nov. 29, 2009, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Virginia Beach. Born Sept. 19, 1915, in Portsmouth, Frederica was a daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Mulvey Scherberger. She was raised in Norfolk and later moved to Washington, D.C. She married James T. Hartnett on Oct. 28, 1944 at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk. Frederica and Jim were both long-time employees of Potomac Electric Power Company in Washington, D.C. They raised their family in Falls Church, Va., where she continued to live until she moved back to the Tidewater area in 1999. Jim preceded her in death in March 1984. She is survived by three sons, Tom (Jenny) Hartnett of North Port, Fla., Fred (Beth) Hartnett of Norfolk, and Mike (Amy) Hartnett of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Mary (Greg) Poffenbarger of Owego, N.Y., and Nancy (Tom) Grogan of Fleming Island, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Jim Hartnett, Rebecca (Darryl) Shand, Matt Hartnett, Dave (Becca) Hartnett, Brett Poffenbarger, Tommy Grogan, Mike Poffenbarger, Kimberly Grogan, Brooke Hartnett; and two great- grandchildren, Alison and Gavin Shand. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, today, Dec. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be conducted by the Rev. Daniel Klem at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart Church on Graydon Avenue in Norfolk. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
