Mary Everett

Mary D. Everett PORTSMOUTH - Mary Downing Everett, 94, passed away Dec. 1, 2009. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, she retired from the Portsmouth public school system as the cafeteria manager at what is now Churchland Middle School. She was predeceased by her husband, Seth Thomas Everett; parents, John Husted and Mary Wingfield Downing; as well as her eight brothers, Wingfield, John, Charles, Francis, Goode, Carter, Richard and E. Devall. Mrs. Everett is survived by her four children: daughter, Sue Everett of Portsmouth; sons, Thomas Everett and wife Diane of Norfolk, Robert Everett of Portsmouth and John Everett of Harrisonburg, Va. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Evan Pierce and Allison St. Halaire; six great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court St., Portsmouth, 23704, by the Rev. Dr. John Throop and the Rev. Sue Crommelin. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Trinity Episcopal Church ECW in memory of Mrs. Everett. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling the arrangements.
