William Webb Obituary

William M. Webb VIRGINIA BEACH - William Middleton Webb, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach where he had been a resident since 2003. Mr. Webb was born in Columbia, S.C., the son of Benjamin Lucas Webb and Amarinthia Elliott Webb. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Anne Page Addison Webb. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1946. He served six years in the U.S. Navy and was active during the Korean War. He and his family settled in Norfolk in 1960 to open an office for Richmond-based Shultz and James Inc., from which he retired in 1985 as vice president. He was a member and president of the local chapter of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, and a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Mr. Webb was a long standing member and vestryman of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Norfolk. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and wonderful laugh, fondness for reading and classical music, the genuine interest he took in the people he met, and above all, the extraordinary love and devotion he had for his family. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Anne Dulany Webb Juarez and husband Richard J. Juarez of Broadway, Va.; sons, William Middleton Webb Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Bolton Webb of Tilghman, Md., and Elliott Lowndes Webb and wife Cindy Wonders Webb of Norfolk; grandchildren, Robert Elliott Juarez and Elizabeth Dulany Juarez; and dear friend, Fae Gollub. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 11, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Norfolk with a graveside service at 11 a.m. the following morning at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 7400 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23505. H.D. May Uncle Bill rest in peace as we celebrate his life and remember the kindness he so generously gave to each one of us. He was a true Southern gentleman and a wonderful person. We will miss him greatly.
