Mildred Godwin Obituary

Mildred E. Godwin VIRGINIA BEACH - Mildred "Pat" Godwin, 86, went to be with the Lord Dec. 4, 2009. The last of nine children, she was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Erwin, Tenn., to the late Aden and Myrtle Lowery. Pat served her country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. She was a cashier for Kellam High School when the school first opened in 1962. Pat also worked as a waitress for many years at the old Hurd's Seafood Restaurant. She was a member of St. John's Baptist church. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, reading, and playing games. Pat was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, William E. Godwin Sr. Left to cherish her memory are three children, Myrtle Woolard and husband Leo of North Carolina, William "Ed" Godwin Jr. and wife Sylvia, and Lynn V. Godwin and wife Susan, all of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Eddie, Michael, Amanda, and Ashley; and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Devan. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bob Pipkin. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donation may be made to St. John's Baptist Church Building Fund. It's almost time for the services and I just had you guys on my mind. I wish I could be there with you just as I was when Uncle Bud passed away. We can all have peace of mind knowing that she is in a better place and with Uncle Bud. My prayers are with you during this time.
