Dear Doggett Family,

Although I never met Mr. Doggett, I feel that I did know him because of the many stories I have heard over the years from my friend Henry. Those were stories of a wonderful and caring individual with a great sense of humor and one who knew who he was and had learned the lessons in life that make for a better world. That is a legacy that will serve all of you well as you go forward, remembering his influence not only on your lives, but the lives of all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

While most of the world will remember Moonlight Rd as the place where dogfighting rose to national prominence, I'll always remember it as the place where I grew up and where everyone from Rt 10 to the country line was a tight knit community which was really more like one big family. Everett & Delilah, joined Mr. & Mrs. Barlow, my mom and dad, Mayo & Flu, Ellis & Lizzie, Carrie & Debreese, and Henry & Daisey to make us kids feel safe and loved. Even though Everett & Delilah didn't arrive in the community until 1952 I truly don't remember a time in my life when they weren't there until Friday when Everett went home to the Lord. Sandra, Ruth, Henry, and Miss Delilah, please know that I share your loss and that wonderful world of Moonlight Rd. is a little less wonderful in reality, but because of you folks and Everett no less wonderful in my memory.
