Robert Edwards Obituary

Robert Edwards Jr. MOREHEAD CITY - Robert Daniel "Dan" Edwards Jr., 69, died Dec. 5, 2009, at home with his family. Dan was born in historic South Norfolk, now a borough of Chesapeake, on June 7, 1940, to the late Robert Daniel Edwards and Edna Weeks Edwards. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves and retired from the Naval Aviation Depot, Cherry Point, N.C., after having served 36 years with the Department of Defense. After retiring from government service, Dan repaired and serviced church organs throughout the community. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. He had a deep appreciation for nature, enjoyed painting waterfowl scenes and portraits, and was an avid golfer at the Morehead City Golf & Country Club. Dan is survived by his wife, Donna; three children, Deborah A. Edwards of Raleigh, N.C., John E. Edwards of Wilmington, N.C., and Justin D. Edwards of Arlington, Va.; one brother, Richard C. Edwards and his wife Mary Lee of Jeffersontown, Ky.; and mother-in-law, Barbara L. Poynor of Morehead City. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Sarah E. Albertson. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. The funeral will be in Parkview Baptist Church Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jack Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Park. Memorial donations can be made to Parkview Baptist Church, 4738 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557 or to The Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, NC 27705.
