Wallis Damon

Wallis Earle Damon VIRGINIA BEACH - Wallis Earle "Wally" Damon died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, in Norfolk. Born March 29, 1926, in Beverly, Mass., he was predeceased by his son, Stevan (Gus) Damon and leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 61 years, Barbara; sons, Wally Jr. (Kathy) Donald (Christina); and brother, Fred Damon Jr.; and grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Aaron, Ross, Andrew and Caroline. He attended the University of Connecticut School of Art and became a member of the ROTC. He served in World War II with the 1291st Combat Engineering Battalion, spending VE Day in Paris. The Damons moved to Chesapeake Beach in 1957 where he joined the Volunteer Fire and Rescue, rising to the rank of captain. He volunteered his artistic talents to many parts of the community and became a member of the Little Creek Lions Club, later serving as president. As a commercial artist, he painted almost every billboard in Hampton Roads. He loved the neighborhood of Chesapeake Beach, and all his friends and family who spent time there. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Little Creek Lions Club, c/o Jerry Phelps, secretary, 1229 Course View Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23455, in lieu of flowers.
