Antonius Koelemeyer Obituary

Antonius Koelemeyer HERTFORD - Tony was born Antonius Koelemeijer in Haarlem, Holland, on April 28, 1933, to Anna Marie Herman Koelemeijer and Antonius Cornelis Koelemeijer. He died in his home in New Hope, N.C., on Dec. 9, 2009 of heart failure. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gwendolyn Nester Koelemeyer; his three stepchildren, Raymond Neile Adams of Zuni, Va., Kenneth Wayne Adams and wife Deborah of Chesapeake, Lorraine Denise Al-Aghbari and husband Mohamed of Katy, Texas; two grandchildren, Alea Al-Aghbari and Tyler Adams; and his sister-in-law, Betty Bashara. Until his illness, Tony faithfully attended Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, N.C. Tony came to the United States in 1968 and became a U.S. citizen on June 29, 1973. He worked in the maritime business most of his life as a port engineer and was a marine surveyor with the United States Maritime Administration when he retired in 1998. He loved the sea and sailed to many ports around the world. He will be buried at sea from the Liberty Ship SS John W. Brown, which is one of the two remaining Liberty Ships of World War II. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Liberty Ship, P.O. Box 25846, Highlandtown Station, Baltimore, MD 21224-0546; Albemarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC, 27907, or Corinth Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, NC. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.evansfac. com.
