Herbert Lifland Obituary

Herbert L. Lifland NORFOLK - Herbert L. Lifland, 85, died Dec. 8, 2009. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Barney and Esther Israel Lifland. Mr. Lifland served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia. Mr. Lifland was a founding member of Temple Israel in Norfolk. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Paula Gellman Lifland; their daughter, Bonnie L. Rosenberg and her husband Arnie of Ashburn, Va.; son, Steven A. Lifland and his wife Roz of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Philip Rosenberg and his wife Mary of Richmond, Andrew Rosenberg of Ashburn, Va., and Ira Lifland of Greensboro; and two great- grandchildren, Emily and Jackson Rosenberg of Richmond. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rabbi Michael Panitz officiating. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.
