James Barker Jr.

James N. Barker Jr. NORFOLK - James Norwood Barker Jr., 86, of the 5300 block of Orion Ave., went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009. Born in Norfolk, to the late Lottie M. Hobbs and James N. Barker Sr., James had worked for the Naval Air Rework Facility for 36 years as a management analyst. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Norfolk, American Legion Post 204, and a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 38. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Marie C. Barker; a daughter, Linda B. Roberson of Norfolk; granddaughter, Susan M. Polomsky and husband Reed of Acworth, Ga.; two great- grandchildren, Ryan M. Polomsky and Taylor S. Polomsky; a brother-in-law, William Couch; and loving niece, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by a grandson, Scott J. Roberson. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Reginald Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5767 Sellger Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502.
