Herbert Lane Obituary

Herbert Bruce Lane CORAPEAKE - Herbert Bruce Lane, 61, was born in Nansemond County, Suffolk, to the late Oscar G. Lane and Sallie D. Lane. He passed away Dec. 14, 2009 and was predeceased by his brother, Robert L. Lane and sister, Mary B. Russell. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Vietnam. Herbert was a fork lift driver for Maersk Distribution. He was a member of Great Fork Baptist Church and sang in the choir. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Thelma W. Lane of Corapeake, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly R. and Brian Taylor of Corapeake; son and daughter-in- law, Joey D. and Tammy Lane of Newport News; two grandchildren, Reagan Taylor and Matthew Bowen; three sisters, Marie Mathias of Gatesville, N.C., Brenda Lane of Suffolk, Debra Long of Alaska; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Florence Lane of Waverly, Va., James and Veronica Lane of England, Sandra Taylor of Suffolk; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at Great Fork Baptist Church with Dr. Donald Ray Jones and the Rev. Steve Siegrist officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence of Brenda Lane. Memorial donations may be made to Great Fork Baptist Church Choir Fund, 180 Great Fork Road, Suffolk, VA 23438. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
