Irene Heidtman Obituary

Irene M. Heidtman VIRGINIA BEACH - Irene M. Heidtman, 75, retired senior chief, passed away Dec. 12, 2009. Our hearts are broken that this lovely woman who touched so many lives is gone. She was a woman of wisdom, courage, trust and love. She loved her country and was proud to serve 30 years in the U.S. Navy. Our "Chief" was the thread that kept a circle of friend as big as her heart. She is survived by her cousin, Ruth Saxton and family; also survived by her longtime companion, Betty Overton, and many, many close family and friends. There will be a ceremony at Hope Lutheran Church, 5350 Providence Road, Virginia Beach, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. Following the ceremony, the family will receive family and friends at her residence. Cremation Society of Virginia, Hampton Roads office, is assisting the family.

My deepest sympathy to Irene's family and life long companion. We worked together at COMNAVSURLANT years ago and she was a good friend. Many great memories of a wonderful, genuine and good person.
