Joseph Radogna Obituary

Joseph A. Radogna Jr. NORFOLK - Joseph Albert Radogna Jr. formerly of Norfolk, passed away Dec. 17, 2009 in Kitty Hawk, N.C. Born July 28, 1947, in Richmond, Va., Joe was the devoted son of Joseph A. and Lucille L. Radogna. In the early 1970s, Joe, along with his brother Steve, purchased the "Thirsty Camel" restaurant, part of what made Ocean View great. He and his brother managed the business for more than 30 years. Joe Radogna was an icon, a man's man, a ladies man, a kind man, a hard man, a quiet man, and a man of many talents...a thinker, a mystery. He was a son and a brother, then a father and grandfather as well as an entrepreneur, traveler, gambler, skier, boater and golfer. He is best remembered by quick, sardonic humor that sent many to awe and scurry. A certain generation will sadly grieve the passing of this man as a symbol that an era has taken its seat in history. Joe had four children, Kelly Lynne Tobin, Jason Shane Radogna, Jerimie Jo Harrell, and Jessica Ann Radogna. Joe was a dedicated and loving father. Joe had eight grandchildren, Gary M. Springle Jr., Brandon K. Springle, Jodi Lee-Ann Springle, Jordan Lynne Harrell, Nikole Rae Tobin, Jaxon Ray Harrell, Caleigh L. and Hailey L. Radogna. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his mother, Lucille; his brother, Steven A. Radogna (Judy); his brother, Dennis K. Radogna (Donna); two nephews and numerous second nieces and nephews. Following the sale of the "Thirsty Camel," Joe and his brother, Steve moved to Kitty Hawk for semi retirement. Joe touched everyone he knew with his wittiness, his sense of humor and his vast knowledge in different arenas. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his brother Steve who was with him until his final departure, but will be greeted into heaven and onto an eternal life with everlasting tee offs, roulette wheels, card games and making bets. A funeral will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Michelle Louk officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
