Carl Pope Obituary

Carl Richard Pope KNOTTS ISLAND - Carl Richard Pope, 72, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. He was born March 31, 1937, in Hanover, N.H. He served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army and retired as sergeant first class. After retirement from the U.S. Army, he worked for and retired from Parks and Recreation Department of City of Virginia Beach. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pope of Knotts Island; son, Tommy Pope of Raleigh, N.C.; stepdaughter, Terri Bealmear and husband Tony and their children Courtnie and Mark of Knotts Island; sister, Ann Russ of Marion, Iowa; many nieces and nephews. A service will be Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach. He will always be remembered for his kind heart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knotts Island Voluntary Fire Department, P.O. Box 115, Knotts Island, NC 27950. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.altmeyer. com.
