Ann Nuckols Obituary

Ann W. Nuckols PORTSMOUTH - Anna Lee Wood "Ann" Nuckols passed into eternal life April 6, 2010. She was the oldest of four daughters born to Lula Kilty (Warren) Wood and Dalma Jarvis Wood. Ann was born in Newton Grove, N.C., Jan. 8, 1920. She attended East Carolina State Teacher's College (ECU). On Aug. 8, 1939, she married Kenneth Bryden Nuckols in Virginia Beach. In 1958, she was chosen as Mrs. Portsmouth. In the 1950s and 60s, she was active in the Sterling Point Garden Club and served as president of the Portsmouth Women's Club. In 1956, Ann started on a journey that changed her life. As she walked that journey, in an effort to become the person she sought to be, other things took place that no on could have foreseen. As part of her growth, she was asked to help others. In so doing, Ann became a guiding light to many and those that came behind her benefited from her light, guidance, support and commitment. She never shirked any opportunity to help another. She was responsible for helping thousands. Her memory will be cherished by her sister, Patricia W. Burden (Stan) of Las Vegas, Nev.; her four children, daughters, Patricia N. Clark (Jack) of Las Vegas, Carolyn N. Dail and Deborah N. Keeter (Johnny Jr.), all of Havelock, N.C., and her son, Kenneth Bruce Nuckols (BJ) of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and also by her sisters, Geraldine W. Sommers and Kitty W. Floyd Moore. A special thank you is given to her niece, Terri and her husband Dennis Davidson. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home at 5815 High Street W., Portsmouth, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 11. A celebration of her life will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to a charity of your choice.
