Edna Boggs Obituary

Edna Garrido Boggs VIRGINIA BEACH - Edna Garrido Boggs went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 10, 2010 surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Virginia Beach. Magnanimous of heart and giving generously to many charities, she was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. She was a committed educator and noted author on the folklore of her native Dominican Republic. She was born in Azua, Dominican Republic on June 19, 1913, and raised for much of her life in Dominican Republic until she came to study in United States. Widow of Professor Ralph Steele Boggs since 1994, she is survived by her sisters, Amanda Garrido Howley and Tijides Garrido Pellterier (Tila), Cecilia C. Goico, Yolanda Garrido Guzman; her nieces and nephews, Amanda LaGra, Alfredo Howley, Pilar P. Guerrero, Victor Alejandro Garrido, Sirena Garrido, Jose M. Goico Jr., and Ana Victoria G. Cisewski, Mary Lois and Juan de Dios Ventura, and Leyandra Guzman; as well as all of her grand nieces and -nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 4 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 4489 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. She was a gracious lady. She always had a nice smile when she would visit with us at The Church of the Ascension with her sister Cecilia and Jose. She will be missed.
