Paul Meitz Obituary

Paul S. Meitz ZUNI - Paul Scott Meitz born Aug. 26, 1974 in Richmond, Va., departed his earthly home in Zuni, April 17, 2010. Scott is survived by his parents Paul and June Meitz whom have spent their past years as caregivers for Scott while he courageously battled 4H syndrome, a rare form of Leukodystrophy; younger brother, Jeff Meitz and sister-in-law Susan Meitz along with niece, Anna Madison Meitz, whose picture and spirit have brightened his room since August; older brother, Mark Meitz; two aunts and uncles and five cousins. Scott graduated from Windsor High School in 1993 where he participated in several clubs and activities. Scott will be remembered most for his extensive contributions of smiling and sharing. After graduation, Scott held odd jobs before beginning advanced medical studies programs at Duke University, Massachusetts General and The National Institute of Health where he became a distinguished contributor for more than nine years. During those years, Scott set records for complimenting staff members, especially females who he would always tell "you look very nice today, thank you for helping me." As his final contribution to NIH, his remains will be studied to advance research of 4H Syndrome and Leukodystrophy. Scott was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served many roles; his final role and lasting contribution was the inspiration he gave many to persevere and remain faithful. In his heavenly home, Scott is able once again to run, dance, laugh, sing and chase girls the way he did before his body was ravaged by 4H. Scott's spirit will endure every time those fortunate enough to have known him smile, laugh, share, persevere or offer a compliment. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 21,at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk and will be officiated by his cousin, the Rev. Joel Meitz. A celebration of Scott's life will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church Men's Fellowship, 5358 Zuni Circle, Zuni, VA 23898. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.

Paul, June, Mark & Jeff I feel like we had a great childhood growing up together at Bethany, our parents playing ball, singing in the choir, church socials. It seems like back then we were all a real family and I am glad that Scott was a part of all that. You have been in my thoughts and prayers and I love you all. Hold onto your memories as they will get you through this. I love you all very much. Michelle Fleming Brinkley
P.S. Kristen sends her condolences from P.A.

June, Paul & family--I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Scott. He was truly an inspiration. I feel your sorrow and emptyness, no parent should lose a child first. Scotts faith and memories will always be a rememberance of what life is truly about. God smiled on him and gave him the strength to help others understand. My prayers are with you.

What a wonderful obituary for a wonderful person.
I am deeply saddened for all that your family is going through. I am lifted by the thought of Scott running, dancing, laughing, singing and chasing girls though. He has a special place in heaven and in our hearts and minds for eternity.
