Whitney Hulce Obituary

Whitney L. Hulce CHESAPEAKE - Whitney Lynne Hulce, 25, passed away unexpectedly April 18, 2010. Unfortunately, her life was cut short as she was in the prime of her life. Whitney was a 2002 graduate of Great Bridge High School, attended Old Dominion University for three years, where she earned a full academic scholarship and later graduated from Western Governor's University, Utah. She was a first-year teacher at Tanner's Creek Elementary School in Norfolk where she taught second grade. Teaching was Whitney's passion; she knew she wanted to be a teacher from a young age and her students held a huge place in her heart. She was a member of Alpha Phi, Epsilon Eta and was the vice president of the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters circle, "Circle in the Bridge." She recently moved to Virginia Beach, a place she loved. Whitney's big bright smile was contagious and will be cherished forever. She was a faithful daughter, granddaughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, teacher and friend to many. Whitney will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever. Whitney was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Dale Hulce Jr. She is survived by her loving parents, Karen Hulce and Scott Hulce; two brothers, Jeremy Hulce and wife Kendal and Matt Hulce; a sister, Leah Hulce; a nephew, Rylan Hulce; maternal grandparents, Edward and Leah Weatherly; and a paternal grandmother, Yvonne Hulce; as well as a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Whitney's life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at Great Bridge Baptist Church, 640 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. The Rev. Charles L. Moseley will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Whitney L. Hulce Memorial Fund, c/o any Monarch Bank. This fund has been established to benefit CHKD's Circle in the Bridge and Tanner's Creek Elementary School. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www. omanfh.com.

Whitney, I am so sorry it had to end this way. Watching everyone today at your funeral was heartbreaking. Watching as they rolled away your casket was even worse, like the final "goodbye". When I walk by your empty desk everyday, I will continue to think of you and the way you loved to sing all of your favorite songs so loudly that everyone could hear or the funny imitations of voices you would always do. I also won't forget your smile...ever. Love,

My heart goes out to the family that Miss Whitney Hulce left behind. Im sure that the pain we feel is not equal to the pain of the ones who held her dear to their hearts but I am a parent of one of her students and he is greatly sadden knowing that he will not get the chance to tell her what kind of a friend and how wonderful of a teacher she was..we really did love her.
