Richard Klaas Obituary

Richard L. Klaas CARROLLTON - Richard Lowell Klaas, 82, of the 15100 block of Ashby Way West, died April 22, 2010. A native of Peterson, Iowa, he was a member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Suffolk. Mr. Klaas was the head swimming coach at the University of Nebraska for 10 years, a Mason in Laurens, Iowa, a World War II veteran of the Navy and Air Force, and an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Helen E. Klaas; two daughters, Karen Klaas and husband Lewis Simon of Virginia Beach and Kathryn E. Gauthier of Chesapeake; and three grandchildren, Brittany, Tony and Melissa Gauthier. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 26, at noon at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church by Dr. Keith Curran. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund or Building Fund, 1885 Bridge Road, Suffolk, VA 23433.
