George Weston Obituary

George E. Weston Jr. PORTSMOUTH - George E. Weston Jr., 78, of the 1600 block of Lyontine Lane, died April 25, 2010 in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. He was born in New York City and retired from the Naval Rework Facility in 1993 after 32 years of service. He was also employed with the U.S. Postal Service for two years. He was a member of First Baptist Church South Portsmouth and the chairman of the trustee ministry. Other memberships include the United Sportsman Club, Past Master Morning Star Lodge No. 3, Alpha and Omega Consistory No. 9, IA of Machinists and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was a graduate of Virginia State University and received the First Baptist Man of Year award, Baptist Coalition. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; one son, Geoffrey R. Weston; one brother, Bruce K. Weston (Maudine); one nephew, Edward Carney (Stephanie); great-nephews, Jamaal and Jadari Carney; caretakers, nurses Becky Scott and Dwight Evans. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, George Sr. and Rosalyn Weston and one sister, Helen Carney. A funeral will be held Friday, April 30, at noon in First Baptist Church South Portsmouth, 1445 Centre Ave., with the Rev. Warren E. Amlet presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge. Special thanks to Dr. Fred Crum and his staff, ICU Hospice and the doctors and nurses of Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.

Mrs. Weston:
My condolences in the passing of your husband, Mr. Weston. It is with heartfelt sympathy. I'm at work and I visualize Mr. Weston and the times at First Baptist Church South Portsmouth. For the short time that I've known Mr. Weston, he was a very nice and well respected. I am very sorry to hear about your loss.
