Frederick Goodwyn Obituary

Frederick Goodwyn PORTSMOUTH - On April 29, 2010, the Lord called Frederick R. Goodwyn from labor to reward. He was born to the late Sidney Y. Goodwyn Jr. and Octavia Johnson Goodwyn on April 26, 1931 in Dinwiddie, Va. After graduating from Norfolk County High School in 1950, he obtained employment with the Naval Supply Center, retiring in 1987 with many commendations. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and received many awards in addition to three Bronze stars. He also served in the Army Reserve, retiring in 1991. Frederick joined the Noble Street Baptist Church in 1956. He was an active and faithful deacon until his health failed. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Norma Goodwyn; daughter, Vernetta Blunt (Bobby); son, Frederick Goodwyn (Ester); two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Annette Williams (Bill) and Barbara Dexter; brothers, Elder Thomas (Velma), Gideon (Emma), and Francis (Sarah); sister-in-law, Daphine Goodwyn; son-in- law, Ron Branch; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frederick was predeceased by one daughter, Yvette Branch; two sisters, Doris Gatling and Gretchen Hughes; and two brothers, James and Henry Goodwyn. A funeral will be held Wednesday, May 5, at noon in Noble Street Baptist Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A wake will be held today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Corprew Funeral Home.

I grew up across the street from Mr. Goodwyn and he was always a good neighbor to all in the community. I especially remember his fondness for hunting and gardening. My prayers go out to his wife and other family members at this sad time. May God give you the comfort and peace that only He can provide.
