Gary Oliver Obituary

Gary Lee Oliver SUFFOLK - Gary Lee Oliver, 63, passed away May 2, 2010. A native of Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Jesse Allen Oliver and was predeceased by one grandson, James Reeves III. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict. Gary was a widely-respected manufacturing representative in the heating and plumbing industry for more than 35 years. He worked statewide - the last 13 of which were proudly with Dominion Marketing. He was a member of Holy Neck Christian Church. He was a member of the McAlister Lodge No. 185 AF & AM, member and past president of the Box Elder Hunt Club, N.B. Chavis Hunt Club, and a founder and coach of the Whaleyville Athletic Association. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Joan O'Brien Oliver; a son and daughter- in-law, W. Allen Oliver and Kim Bass Oliver of Suffolk; two daughters, Tracy C. Oliver and fiancé James D. Reeves Jr. of Carrsville, Va. and Kristen D. Oliver of Suffolk; 16 grandchildren; his mother and stepfather, Emily Jane Smith Oliver Bartlett and Charles Bartlett of Mogadore, Ohio; stepsons and wives, Alan and Jennifer Anderson of Chico, Calif. and Andrew and Jaime Berhanu of Dresden, Maine and deeply loved by his stepdaughter and husband, Alexis and Rich Bogardus of Albany, N.Y.; sister and brother-in-law, Gail Oliver and Alan Donaldson of McKeesport, Pa.; and a brother, Christopher Oliver. A celebration of life service with Masonic Rites will be held Wednesday, May 5, at 2 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, with the Rev. Dr. Reggie Warren officiating. Burial will be private. Friends may join the family for visitation at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the McAlister Lodge No. 185 AF & AM Building Fund, c/o of James Copeland, 2370 Box Elder Road, Suffolk, VA 23437.
