Phyllis Gray Obituary

Phyllis H. Gray PORTSMOUTH - Phyllis H. Gray, 85, of the 4200 block of Dartmouth St., passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Phyllis retired from Portsmouth Naval Hospital as secretary to the chief of radiology where she served for 32 years. She was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Sterling "Thorton" Gray; daughter, Deborah S. Gray of Portsmouth; two sons, Paul A. Gray of Portsmouth and Kevin D. Gray of Spring Valley, Minn.; three sisters, Sallie H. Kittinger of Norfolk, Celeste H. Belcher of Virginia Beach, and Zelda H. Freeman of Chesapeake; two brothers, Wesley T. Hensley of The Villages, Fla. and Carrington R. Hensley of Suffolk; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Westhaven Baptist Church with the Rev. Traci B. Powers officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music fund of Westhaven Baptist Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
