Julie Washington Obituary

Julie D. Washington VIRGINIA BEACH - Julie Danielle Washington, loving daughter, wife and mother, passed away May 2, 2010, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle against acute myeloid leukemia. Julie was born in Virginia Beach on June 29, 1969 to Capt. James Joyner, U.S. Navy retired, and the late Jeanne Marie Joyner. Even though her husband's career took the family to Denver, Colo. for five years and most recently Richmond, Va., she still considered Virginia Beach her home, where many family members and close friends still reside. In addition to raising two beautiful daughters, she held positions with TWA Airlines, Incentive Works, a promotional company, EXPO, a Home Depot subsidiary, and Home Depot. She thoroughly enjoyed making needle-point creations for family and friends, as well as being a voracious reader. Julie is survived by her husband, Tony; daughters, Danielle, 17, and Kristiina, 11; her father, James; brothers, David and Derek; stepmom, Sharon, who loved her like her own daughter; maternal grandfather, Reuben Lottinger; Tony's parents, William and Helena Washington; aunts, uncles, many, many cousins; and a very special relative and friend, her Aunt Linda (Lee Lee), who was by her side throughout her illness. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Medical College of Virginia Hospital for their compassion and loving care during Julie's illness. A memorial service for Julie will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 7, at the Lynnhaven United Methodist Church, 1033 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. She will be interred in New Orleans, La., at a later date, joining her mother, Jeanne Marie, brother, Kevin, and loving grandmother, Marie Lottinger (Gigi). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Pablove Foundation (an organization founded to fight childhood cancer with love), 3801 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90026 in memory of Julie's cousin, Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, who lost his battle with cancer at age six.

Tony, Danielle, Kristina;

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of sorrow. I am so happy I met Julie, and worked with her at Home Depot the years that I have expediting with her, she had been an inspiration to me. I would get a customer call that would stress me out and she would say "Susie, it's not worth it you're going to get one of your migranes", and would calm me down. She was good at handling matters without getting upset. Julie always thought of others, she was a wonderful friend. Julie will be greatly missed. But she will still be in our hearts forever.....
