Mary Harrison Obituary

Mary Harrison PORTSMOUTH - Mary Wesley "Muddy" Harrison was called to be with her maker on Saturday, May 22, 2010, in a local hospital. She was a native of Portsmouth and was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Alice Hasty. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pat Redditt. She was a member of the Portsmouth Moose Lodge Chapter No. 966 and past member of the Board of Directors for the VMCA. She was previously employed by the Portsmouth Naval Hospital and Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a purchasing agent where she retired. She was a loving mother, granny, great- granny and caring person who made everyone feel special. She always went the extra mile to ensure everyone around her was happy and didn't want for anything. She had a strong and determined personality that could take little and make it memorable. She loved family, people gatherings and country music. She was lauded by many to be one of the top female country music vocalists in the Tidewater area. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Daniel "Dan" Harrison; two daughters, Pamela "Pam" Mitchell and Cynthia "Cindy" Skinner and husband David; two sons, Ralph "Hank" Collins and wife Eva and Deano Harrison and wife Stacy; sister, Annette Walton and husband Dick; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Wayne, Shay, Brian, Mary Ann and Connor Dean; four great-grandchildren, Layne, Bryce, Hunter and Skylar; a special uncle, Dr. Christopher "Kit" Morse; a brother-in-law, Donald Redditt; a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 27, in Pinecrest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Relay For Life and/or American Lung Association. www. SturtevantFuneralHome.com.

I remember this very sweet lady from when I was little. She and my grandmother were friends in Academy Park. My prayers are with you. I lost my grandmother several years ago also so I know she has good friends in heaven today. I can imagine how great that reunion is!

Ms. Harrison was a beautiful woman. Women of today should learn from her example, for not only was she beautiful on the outside but she was beautful on the inside. My mother, Murriel Hill passed in 1993. She and Mary had many good times. Mama thought of Mary as a sister and my mama and Mary were the best of friends. I remember Mary and her husband and children from my childhood. They are wonderful people and my heart is broken from their loss. My prayers are with them. God Bless you all. Heaven just got another angel. Mary was good hearted and kind....truely a most beautiful woman.

Our deepest sympathy to Danny and the children and family. I know your hearts are broken and you will miss her so bad, she was a very special person, always had a smile for you. she made you feel special when you were around her. Mary and Danny
were there for me when my mother passed away. I know my mother was so happy to see her, She was momma's best friend. We kinda lost contact when my mother died and we move out of Virginia, but I still have the best memories of the old days and the fun she always made sure everyone had. What fun we will have when we all see her in heaven one day. What a beautiful angel she is in heaven and I feel so blessed to have known her. Now you have a very special guardian Angel to watch over you always.

To Muddy's Family,
I worked with her at the Naval Hospital and was delighted to learn she was Kitty's niece. We kept in touch through email and and cards. She was a very special friend. I cherish the many memories we shared. I hope each of you will remember all the good times.
May our Lord hold you in the palm of His hand as he brings you through this most difficult time in your life.
Blessings,
Georgine
