Mildred Belton Obituary

Mildred Peele Belton CHESAPEAKE - Mildred Peele Belton went to be with her Lord June 2, 2010. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born in Hamlet, N.C., and was predeceased by parents, John "Al" and Janie Peele of Hamlet; and son, Larry Coward of Portsmouth. Mildred is survived by husband, Richard "Dick" Belton of Chesapeake; three children: son, Randy Coward and wife Billie Jo of Virginia Beach, and daughters, Paula Chappell and husband Mike of Chesapeake, and Christy Chasteen and husband John of Newport News. She also had two stepsons, Russell Ashley of Knoxville, Tenn. (deceased), and Darrell Ashley of Big Stone Gap, Va. She had nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Martha Byrd and Dorothy Earp of Hamlet; and one brother, Johnny Peele and wife Jean of Sunset Beach, N.C. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Etta Hodges of Hamlet. She was a retired bookkeeper with Highs Ice Cream. She was a member of the Lynnhaven Chapter No. 184 of the Eastern Star and member of the South Norfolk Church of Christ. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by Pastor John Keane. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
