Roy J. Snyder CHESAPEAKE - Roy James Snyder of Chesapeake died June 9, 2010 at home. Born Oct. 23, 1918 in Reading, Pa., he was the son of Augustus and Estella Snyder. A faithful and loving husband, he is survived by Margaret, his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Jane Ann Snyder of Chesapeake; son, James "Rudi" Snyder and his wife Cecelia of Hackettstown, N.J.; daughter, Suzanne Snyder Pereske and her husband Alan of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; granddaughters, Jessica and Lisa of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Kent State University and the University of Georgia, Mr. Snyder was a professor of mathematics and history and taught at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, N.Y., until his retirement in 1986. He came out of retirement briefly to teach at Lafayette High School in Williamsburg and at Thomas Nelson Community College. He and his wife enjoyed their retirement in the Williamsburg and York County area of Virginia, living in the heart of American history. Dear Dad, you are our one and only true hero. Love, your family. Family will receive friends at Mr. Snyder's residence, Lighthouse Point Retirement Community in the activity room, 933 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, from 2 to 5 p.m. today. Friends wishing to make contributions in his memory may send them to a local hospice or charity of choice. Private services will be held later in Wadsworth, Ohio. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory. Friends are invited to sign the online guest book at www.omanfh.com.

May our family celebrate with you the life of Mr. Snyder. He was always knowledgeable on any topic we tossed out at him. I remember the joy he and Margaret felt on their 50th wedding anniversary. I bet that was one of the few times you were able to put something over on him. He tried so hard to take good care of your mother and loved his children very much. How he loved his crossword puzzles.
Love,
