Ivan Bunton Obituary

Ivan Guy Bunton SUFFOLK - Ivan Guy Bunton, 74, of the 2800 block of Colonial Drive, died June 24, 2010 in his home. A native of Butler, Tenn., he was the widower of Laura L. Bunton. He was a retired Air Force master sergeant with 20 years service, serving in Vietnam, and also a retired civil service electronics technician with NICTAMSLANT, Norfolk. Survivors include two daughters, Sonya Seward and husband Chris of Norfolk and Kelly McCann and significant other Paul Gwaltney of Suffolk; one granddaughter, Laura McCann; his significant other, Pat Warren and her three children, Diana Warren and friend Roland McPherson, David Warren and Ronnie Warren; and special friends, Brian and Kim Walsh and Rick and Karen Shetler and their son Michael. A funeral will be held Tuesday, June 29, at 12:30 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by Pastor Bryant Collins. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Edward George, Karen, Eric and other staff at Virginia Oncology, and all of his caregivers, especially Joanne Eley, his buddy. So sorry for your loss. Ivan and I worked together at the Navy Base for many years. I first met him while in uniform as my watch supervisor. I respected and admired him professionally, quickly becomng his friend as well. Even after he retired, I never forgot Ivan, and never will. He was a great boss, a super friend, and a good man.

Sonya and Kelly, So sorry about your Dad's passing. I remember when we were kids and spent many, many summers at Aunt Ethel's with Ivan and other cousins. I will always remember those good times together and will miss him always.

This is a voice from the Bunton's past. Ivan and I were stationed together in Japan back in the 70's and my family and the Bunton family spent a lot of time together. (Don, Cecile, Renee, and Mark Taylor). After Ivan and I both retired from the Air Force, we went to Butler and stayed the weekend with the Buntons and had a wonderful reunion. Ivan was such a caring individual with a heart of gold. Sonya and Kelly were what he considered his greatest achievements. He truly loved "his girls". Whether it was just myself and Cecile spending time with Ivan and Laura or Renee and Mark spending time with Sonya and Kelly, it seemed like the Taylor's and the Bunton's were always doing something together in Japan. We have never forgotten them over the years. Our hearts go out to Sonya and Kelly during this troubled time. Your dad was a special man. We all loved him.
