Marian Smith Obituary

Marian LaDennia Smith CHESAPEAKE - Marian LaDennia Smith departed this life July 14, 2010 at her home. She was born May 26, 1925 in Martinsville, Va., and was the fourth child of the late Willie Lee and Mary Lightfoot. She was a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College in Winston-Salem, N.C., and earned a master's degree from Old Dominion University. Mrs. Smith began her teaching career in Martinsville, Va., and retired from Norfolk Public Schools with 42 years of combined service. She was a charter member of the Chesapeake Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, charter member of the Chesapeake Chapter of the Delicados Inc. and a member of the Norfolk Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She was also a member of the Crest Harbor Civic League and Fellowship United Church of Christ, Chesapeake. She is survived by her son, Vincent R. Blue II; a grandson, Vincent R. Blue III; a granddaughter, Jasmine Bond; two sisters, Gwendolyn L. Martin and Hazel L. Tucker (Fabius); an aunt, Carlotta Foster Dyson (Alvin) of Richmond; three nephews; three nieces; a host of family and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today in Fellowship United Church of Christ, 1402 Gust Lane. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
