Daniel Miller Obituary

Daniel P. Miller Sr. NORFOLK - Daniel Parrish Miller Sr. died July 17, 2010, after an extended illness. His brave determination was an inspiration to all. Born Sept. 4, 1935 in Lorain, Ohio, he graduated from Elyria High School and immediately entered the U.S. Coast Guard. After serving four years in the Coast Guard, he joined the U.S. Navy and retired after 21 years of service. After military service, Dan worked for various local shipyards including Norshipco and Colonna. He then worked for Federal Equipment and Tidewater Marine Electric, where he continued to work until his death. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Nelson and Carrie Miller and his daughter, Karen Orr Lehman. He is survived by his loving devoted wife of 38 years, Sandra Williford Miller; and his two sons and their spouses, Daniel P. Miller Jr. and Dawna of Chesapeake and Jim and Marsha Orr of Virginia Beach; and his granddaughter, Emearl Miller of Chesapeake. Also surviving is his brother, David L. Miller and wife Bobbi of Lorain, Ohio. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Sentara Leigh Hospital, and the entire Sentara family for their loving care and kindness. Memorial contributions can be made to Sentara Leigh Hospital Building Fund c/o Sentara Healthcare Foundation, 6015 Poplar Hall Drive, Suite 306, Norfolk, VA 23502. The family will receive visitors at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, on Wednesday, July 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon- brown.com.
