Nathaniel Chavis Obituary

Nathaniel Chavis Sr. SUFFOLK - Nathaniel Chavis "Shorty" Sr., 80, passed away July 18, 2010. He was born in South Carolina, the son of the late Cora Lee H. and Lonnie Chavis. He was predeceased by his son, David Ray Chavis. He retired after 54 years as a truck driver for Burgess Trucking Company. Nathaniel is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn J. and Wayne Evans, Karen F. and James Whitley, all of Suffolk, Natalie McMillian of Prince George County, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Jettie Chavis, Larry and Cindy Chavis of Suffolk, Nat "Pee Wee" and Lori Chavis of Eure, N.C., Harry "Jabo" and Debbie Chavis of Suffolk, Don and Tina Chavis of Fort Smith, Ark., Keith and Kandi Chavis of Toccoa, Ga.; 23 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; sisters, Edith Gibson and Doris Strickland, both of South Carolina; and nephew, Frank Chavis and wife Peggy of South Carolina. A funeral will be held Wednesday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. David Nicholes officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home & Crematory and other time at the residence of Bobby Chavis. Memorial donations may be made to Community Baptist Church, 3520 Pruden Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com. The family would like to give special thanks to Glenn Tucker for the special care he gave.
