Lee Chatman Obituary

Lee Ella Chatman NORFOLK - Lee Ella Chatman of the 500 block of W. 38th St., died Aug. 11, 2010 at the Medical College of Virginia. A native of Norfolk, she had been a private nurse and a member of New Calvary Baptist Church. She had been a deaconess, a former member of the League of Women Voters, United Order of Tents Lodge, NAACP, 35th St. Merchants Association and volunteered with other support programs. She is survived by her husband, Walter Chatman of Maryland; five daughters, Sandra Clark of Richmond, Dr. Beverly Bonner of Portsmouth, Diane Fields, Deborah Fields and Lanoda Alexander, all of Norfolk; five sons, Earl Fields Jr. of Pennsylvania, Willie Fields and David Fields, both of New York, Tracy Chatman and Walter L. Chatman, both of Norfolk; two brothers, Leon King and David King, both of New York; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends including her best friend, James Britt and special loved ones, Eric Wyatt, Emmet Forbes and Evelyn Wills. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Nellie Wesby and Bernice Wesby; and a son, Norris Fields. A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, in New Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Roosevelt Memorial Park Cemetery. The remains will be ready for viewing today, Aug. 15, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Homes, Norfolk Chapel, at 12:30 p.m. for the procession. www.carlosahowardfuneralhomes.com.
