Donald Davis Obituary

Donald W. Davis Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Donald Walton Davis Jr. died Aug. 12, 2010 after a brief illness. Donald was born in 1915 in Greencastle, Ind., to Professor Donald Walton Davis and Katherine Bressler Davis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Jane Ayers Davis; his children, Donald (Lois), Emily Dale (Max), Katherine Stein (Rick), Paul (Bryn); and daughter-in-law, Lesley Davis; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Virginia Davis Faulconer (Robert). He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James; and his sister, Mary Eleanor Ries. Don grew up in Williamsburg and graduated from Matthew Whaley High School, The Tome School and Harvard College. By profession, he was a sales engineer specializing in air handling equipment. Many of his boyhood summers were spent at Camp Sequoyah near Asheville, N.C., where he developed his love of athletics and nature. He was a member of the MIT Glider Club and spent many weeks at Harris Hill in Elmira, N.Y., pursuing his hobby. In his retirement, he enjoyed singing with the Westminster Canterbury Men's Chorus and the Chapel Choir. His large family remembers him as a loving man with a strong sense of honor who greatly enjoyed his family. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 16. The funeral will follow at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Norfolk at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension or to the Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Marvin and I are so sorry for your loss. Gramps was such a caring man. He was so quick to come and welcome me to your family. I will miss my Thanksgiving Dinner partner.
