Frank Podbevsek Obituary

Frank M. Podbevsek NORFOLK - Frank "Mike" Podbevsek died Aug. 30, 2010 in Bon Secours Hospital. Mike was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 10, 1923. He was first generation Slovene American. His parents, Katherine (Nee) Mom and Frank Podbevsek were emigrants from "the old country." Mike joined the U.S. Navy in 1940. He was a plank owner of the USS Intrepid and while serving aboard her survived many kamikaze attacks. He retired from the Navy and the Department of Defense. He leaves to mourn his wife, Bernice; daughter, Suzanne and her husband Troy Lee; and his sisters, Josie Rehmar and Helen Bryne; and brother, George Pugel. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 45 years where he did volunteer work and for many years delivered Mobile Meals. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and retired member of Ocean View Seniors Golf as well as Virginia Beach Seniors. He was a gentle, quiet man of honor and integrity. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. His celebration of life will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Slattery presiding. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice. Burial will be at sea. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements. Bernice,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Mike was a very special person to me. I always wanted to be like him. You two were still sweethearts after so many years together. Mike will be truly missed by us all, but I know he is resting peacefully. George Bell (Cebu, Philippines)
