Richard Werner Obituary

Richard R. Werner NORFOLK - Richard "Dick" Russell Werner, 82, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. Dick was retired having served as a cartographer with the U.S. Military Armaments Facility at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J., and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Norfolk. Born in Schuylkill Haven, Pa., he was the son of the late Olan Saylor Werner and Russell R. Werner. Mr. Werner was a 26-year member of Freemason Street Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 50 years, Kathern M. Werner; a cousin, Robert Painter of Gettysburg, Pa; and many wonderful friends that will miss him dearly. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in Freemason Street Baptist Church by Dr. Stephen N. Jolly and Dr. Tim Dixon. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, today from 7 until 8 p.m. for a visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Cancer Mission Fund in Honor of the Sixth Floor Oncology Unit, 6015 Poplar Hall Drive, Suite 308, Norfolk, VA 23502 or online at www.sentara.com /foundation.
