James Weber Obituary

James Ray Weber CHESAPEAKE - James Ray Weber, 78, of the 1400 block of Waterside Drive S., passed away Aug. 31, 2010 in his home. Born June 7, 1932 in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Howard and Elizabeth Weber. He served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a senior chief petty officer. He was one of the first city horticulturists-arborists for the City of Virginia Beach, retiring after 15 years. He was a volunteer for Operation Smile since 1994 and also volunteered for Greenbrier Library. He served on the Chesapeake Library Board and for 18 years was on the Greenbrier Property Owners Association Board, including being past president. He was a member of the Tidewater Corvair Club, serving two years as president and also a member of the Confederate Air Force. He was a member of Western Branch Community Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly; daughters, Cynthia Bateman of Chesapeake and Linda Weber of Tampa, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Brittany Bateman of Chesapeake and Joshua Bateman of Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with a funeral to be held at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jim Wall officiating. Interment will be held Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation Smile. My deepest sympathy for your families loss. Jim was a what a real man is all about. A good friend, true to his family, a hard worker and he cared for everybody. I never heard a negitive word from him. I still have the tree he gave to me when I was in the hospital 20 years ago. He will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know him. God blees you all in this time of grief.
