Edward Murphy Obituary

Edward H. Murphy ELIZABETH CITY - Edward H. Murphy, 76, of U.S. 17 South, passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 in Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Yadkin County, North Carolina, and was the son of the late W. Lawrence Murphy and Jennie Kerley Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a veteran, having served seven years in the United States Coast Guard. He was a former cable splicer and engineer with Carolina Telephone Company. Mr. Murphy was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bettye Lou W. Murphy; sons, Edward W. Murphy and wife Brenda of Camden, N.C., and W. Guy Murphy of Elizabeth City; two granddaughters, Leslie M. Jennings and husband Kirk of Camden and Jenna M. Bryant and husband Ricky of Yorktown, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Koen and Jordan; a brother, Norris Murphy and wife Claudia of Richmond, Va.; a brother-in-law, Gino Vargas of Glendale, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Delbert Creef. He was predeceased by a sister, Lee M. Vargas; and a brother, Wayne Murphy. The family wishes to mention and thank the physicians, caregivers, and staff of Albemarle Hospital and friends for the special care that they showed Murphy. A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Turner officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, Monday from 7 until 8 p.m. and immediately following the service at the church, and all other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Corinth Baptist Church Building Fund, 1035 U.S. 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. We were so sorry to hear of Mr. Murphys passing. I lost my Mom on New Years Eve last year and even tho you know it's going to happen, it's so very hard to let them go. We know they are with the Lord and will always be looking down on us watching over us all. Just know you are in our prayers and thoughts. Wayne and Darlene Lane
