Jean Lane Obituary

M. Jean Floyd Lane LYNCHBURG - Jean Floyd Evans Lane, 83, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at the Medical Care Center. She was the widow of Jack Marshall Evans and James Louis Lane. She was born Sept. 29, 1926 in Amherst, Va., a daughter of the late Horance Reeves Floyd and Arva Garvin Floyd. Jean was a retired secretary from the U.S. civil service after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Miles Memorial United Methodist Church, and worked extensively for the community and church. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Vivian F. Wagner, Mary F. Rowe and Helen F. Tadlock; and her brother, Carlton G. Floyd. Jean is survived by her two daughters, Jo Ella Lawrence and her husband Leland and Karen Steele, both of Poquoson; her stepson, Allen Lane and his wife Debbie of Chesapeake; her three brothers, H.H. "Buck" Floyd, James W. Floyd and his wife Dea, and Robert R. Floyd and his wife Jean, all of the Lynchburg area; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. She enjoyed her life to the fullest. A celebration of Jean's life will be conducted Monday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Dan Manley officiating. The family will receive friends today, Sept. 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Karen, Jo Ella, Ms. Jean's brothers and family, I'm so very sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I will miss her but am left with great memories of a brilliant and witty woman I am blessed to have had her in my life.
