Fred Kerekes Obituary

Fred Joseph Kerekes NORFOLK - Fred Joseph Kerekes, 65, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at his home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 8, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel followed by burial with military honors in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Fred was born Dec. 13, 1944 to Michael and Dorothy Kerekes in Honolulu, Hawaii. On May 16, 1970, Fred married Rosalie Margaret Rodriguez in Long Beach, Calif. Fred joined the United States Navy in 1963. He served two tours in Vietnam. Fred retired from the Navy as a chief petty officer in January of 1985. After retiring from the Navy, Fred went to work for the City of Norfolk before retiring in December 2006. Fred enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to his flower garden and caring for his two dogs, Sweet Pea and Icey. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Rosalie; two sons, Joseph Kerekes and Daniel Kerekes and wife Heather; daughter, Felicia Kerekes; three grandchildren, Mia, Simon and Evelyn.
