Elizabeth Coffey Obituary

Elizabeth D. Coffey VIRGINIA BEACH - Elizabeth Dorothy "Bette" Coffey, 89, of the 3300 block of Regent Park Walk, passed away at her home Monday, Sept. 6, 2010. Bette had been a resident of South River, N.J., for 50 years. Born in Newark, N.J., Bette grew up in Vernon, Ontario. There, she attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. She moved to Kenilworth, N.J., when she was 15. She graduated from Regional High School in Kenilworth in 1939. She married her husband Jack in 1941. They were married 69 years when he passed away in April of 2010. Bette loved to sing, singing in the church choir and for weddings. She worked as a bookkeeper until the birth of her son Tim. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Bette is survived by her son, John Timothy Coffey and wife Mary of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, John W. Coffey and wife Adrienne of Martinsville, Va., and Michael J. Coffey of Charlottesville; a granddaughter, Joanne M. Coffey of Virginia Beach. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 9, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment will be private at a later date. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
