WOW, I can't believe it ! I heard about Ray's passing from a boyhood friend. We were talking about the old neighborhood and all the fun we had back in the day ! I grew up in the Kingston/Kings Grant area of Va. Beach, Va. I met Ray waaay back in the the 70's. Ray and I played baseball together for a few years at the Lynnhaven/Trant ballfields. We played for the Pirates in the "Bronco" league, then against each other in the "Pony/Colt" league. While playing for the Pirates, Ray & I became friends. I remember hanging out with him and his sister Karen. And the occasional sleep overs. The family was always so kind and generous. Ray was great, always so happy and upbeat as well as a fierce competitor! Then in 1975 our family moved to Wa. state. I'm TRULY, TRULY saddened by his passing. I had hoped to talk with him some day about those growing up baseball years. May GOD truly bless and keep his sons and be with his mom & family !! "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord JesusChrist! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you.... 1 Peter 1:3. May GOD bless!! Good Bye Ray!!

Ray has been a great friend since I met him in the ER and where he met his love Joy who later passed.
Ray 100% is now with her in heaven with eternal peace. But Genny and I are shocked that he was taken when had such a positive impact and love of people and life.
He loved his sons Christopher and Tyler so much and of course his family.
Ray was our Best man in our wedding and will be missed by all of us.
We miss you and pray that all his family and friends find the strength to keep the faith that God grants us life sometimes long and sometimes short, but it is how we lived when here on earth, and who we helped and loved that counts.
Ray truly loved life and gave to all of us.
RIP.

It is only through reading everyone's sentiments that I learned that Ray has two children. May God find a way to help you cope and keep the faith. My sympathies to you "his children" for losing both of your parents. God must have great faith in your faith and may you look beyond the hurt and realize that in essence....God is our "Father" and we may all only be so blessed to return to our maker and that none else on the planet in all the worlds can care for us like God. We are only here for a short time and sadly, for some, it is shorter than others. I pray that you will find inner peace in accepting God's will for there is no real answers in asking "why". I pray for your peace. I haven't hung out with Ray since WOW! 20 plus years....Stingers Days and then some. My sister met him a few years back and that is when I heard he lost his wife and had kids. Prayers and Love to all his family and friends whom mourn his loss.

Ray-Ray, everyone knows you were a great firefighter and greater Paramedic. However, what you did when no one was watching or not getting paid goes above and beyond any compliment one could say. You were my best friend, partner and brother for many years. I remember the day when we met Joy of your world and I listened to you go on and on about her the rest of the shift in the Rescue truck. I was there when she left you and saw you'd never be the same. I know Ray, I will see you again and you'll be with Joy and we'll be forever in Our Lord's Presence. Until then Ray-I love you! Dear Mrs. Harnadek, Karen, and the Coons family you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Dear Ray, we met for the 1st time back in the early 80’s at Craig’s parents fish market, Selma and Stan, I was with my mother Sue. Several years later when I was of age, Craig, Ray and Oscar would take me to the clubs and you (Ray) would just look at me if anybody came near me, all I would have to do is shake my head yes or no. You were the best body guard ever! Nobody would bother me if I were with that clan…
Many years have past, marriages, children and we still stayed in touch, I will miss you dearly my friend,RIP

I was shocked to hear about Rays passing. He was one of the kindest, most generous, spirit filled person I have ever known. Tyler and my son Vantine were friends as we attended the same church. Ray also chaperoned a youth missionary trip to a coal mining town in Kentucky with my daughter Michelle. We as a family were blessed by our friendship with Ray and Tyler. Tyler and the rest of the family are in our prayers.

For over 10 years, "Ray-Ray" Coons was my "brother from another mother", my neighbor, my fellow firefighter, my workout partner, my interior designer and my friend. May his kindness and generosity be passed on to his sons Chris & Tyler. And may his passion for life be remembered by his co workers, family and friends.

I just heard about Ray's death and am deeply saddened. He worked with my son, Matthew Cole, a few years ago in Riviera Beach. We lost Matt 6 years ago, and my heart breaks for his mom and his son. I know how you are feeling. Please allow the love and prayers of your family & friends get you through this. Your faith will carry you through. God Bless You!

Ray Coons IS a friend and was great to work with. He was always willing to share what he had with his fellow firefighters. He was an aggressive firefighter and caring paramedic. I will always remember him as the Marlboro Man. This world will sorely miss him!

I am totally blown away and so upset to hear of his passing. I lived with Joy when she met RAY and witnessed how in love with Joy he was as she with him. After Joy passed he was destroyed but in time I met up with him a few times and he was managing to go on with his life. I was happy for him. He was a wonderful warm big teddy bear and I don't think there was anyone that did not love Ray. God, please take care of his children Tyler and Chris. So So upset, but guess my friend Joy needed him with her. I will always have them both in my heart. Love you guys Rest in peace.

I was and am, as I am sure is everybody that knew Ray, in a state of shock at Ray's passing. I only have great memories of working with him on an occasional shift. A truly great and fun friend to be around and work with.
Spiritually speaking, when Joy was ill and even after she passed I was able to have some good Jesus conversation with Ray. He stated he was praying quite a bit and seemed strong in his faith.
We sure do miss you Ray. Our Lord will watch over your family members always. I look forward to seeing you again through our unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. I am priviledged to know you, God Bless You my brother.

I am so sorry to hear about Ray's passing. Being on a different shift, I never had the priviledge of working with him. At social gatherings he always stood out as the BIG PERSONABLE guy who had a great heart. Rest in Peace Ray and God Bless You and your family.

I am deeply saddened at the passing of Ray. He was indeed a great firefighter and paramedic proudly serving on Rescue Company 16 in Wilton Manors. As division chief of Bravo platoon, I have nothing but praise for Ray who always remained focused and dedicated to the love of his job and more importantly his family whom he so deeply loved and beamed as he spoke of them. I am honored that he was part of a great group of men and women on Bravo Shift during my tenure and honored to have known a great man, father, and firefighter. I pray very hard for his children, Christopher & Tyler, Ray's wonderful and saintly mother Christine, and his loving family that God will comfort them and shower each of them with His Great Love during these sad times. May God Bless you Ray and Family! Last Alarm 5-5-5.

I am very saddened to hear about Rays passing. I had known Ray for close to 15 years and he was a great guy. We worked together in the early 90s - he had a great outlook on life, he really enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his son. He will be missed.
