JoAnn Fowlkes

JoAnn W. Fowlkes VIRGINIA BEACH - JoAnn W. Fowlkes passed away Sept. 8, 2010 at a local hospital. She was 81. JoAnn was the daughter of Josiah Judson White Sr. and Annie Walker White. She grew up in the Larchmont area of Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School, Class of 1947. She attended Stratford Junior College in Danville, Va. She was employed in the medical profession all of her adult life and retired from Women's Health Care of Virginia Beach. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William R. Fowlkes; a son, William (Randy) Fowlkes Jr.; a daughter, Lynne Fowlkes Dozier and her husband Randy; a brother, Josiah Judson White Jr. and wife Patricia; a granddaughter, Lyndsay Anne Fowlkes; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Ted David officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502 or to Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad, 3769 East Strafford Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.
