Elsa Pangle Obituary

Elsa Gissel Pangle VIRGINIA BEACH - Elsa Gissel "Dolly" Pangle, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Virginia Beach surrounded by her loving family Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010. She was born July 25, 1918 in Coshocton, Ohio, to the late Roman Edward and Paula Dietrich Gissel and grew up in Huntington, W.Va. Her parents, who emigrated from Germany, founded Gissel Packing Company in the early 1920s and at one time it was the largest meat packing company in the Tri-state area. Elsa was the last of seven siblings. She and her husband were married in 1937 and raised their family in Huntington. In 1951, she and her husband moved their family to Norfolk after Mr. Pangle rejoined the U.S. Navy. She was a member of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Hampton Roads Auxiliary and did volunteer work at the Thrift Shop. She was also a member of the Navy Wives Club of America, Tidewater 190. Mrs. Pangle was a devoted and loving wife and mother, an accomplished seamstress and avid gardener. She traveled the world extensively with her family and enjoyed the classical arts. Mrs. Pangle was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel D. Pangle and sons-in-law, Bernard A. Furey and James R. Quisenberry. She is survived by her daughters, Romana Pangle Furey of Williamsburg and Diana P. Quisenberry; and her son, Samuel D. Pangle II and wife Luce A. Pangle of Virginia Beach; along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. William Hovland and his nurse, Sheila Eley for their many years of excellent care for their mother and to the nurses from Medi Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate guidance and support. A funeral will be conducted Monday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, Samuel. Dear Folks
It is so hard to believe that over 50 years ago one of the nicest persons I even met has left you to remember those wonderful times. I hope you will accept my sincere expression of condolences for your mom's passing. I still remember a wonderful tasting popover that she made and her ever so pleasant demeanor. I wish each of you the very best and hope all goes well.
