Frances Savage Obituary

Frances Bryant Savage VIRGINIA BEACH - Frances Bryant Savage, 97, of Ormond Beach, Fla., passed away Sept. 8, 2010. Born May 5, 1913 in Courtland, Va., she received her nurse's training at Lakeview Hospital in Suffolk. She married her husband, H.E. Savage Jr., founder of Savage Truck Line Inc., in 1931. They spent the majority of their lives at the oceanfront of Virginia Beach where they reared two daughters. Frances and her husband made 25 round-trips from Virginia to Fort Lauderdale boating the Intra-Coastal waterway. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women; Past Grand Guardian of Virginia, I.O.J.D.; Past Worthy Matron Virginia Beach Chapter No. 75 and a 67-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and a member of Athaliah Temple No. 114, Daughters of the Nile. She will be remembered as a Southern lady and for her good humor, wit, silly songs and limericks, service to many fraternal organizations, and devotion to family and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Eva Lee Savage; three sisters; two brothers; and son-in-law, Bruce Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Alyce Thomas of Ormond Beach; granddaughters, Alyce Lee Stansbury and husband James of Tallahassee and Virginia Palmer and husband Geoff of North Attleboro, Mass.; and great-grandchildren, Thomas, Caroline and Jack. A graveside service will be held Monday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk is handling arrangements.
