Nicolaas Van Beurden Obituary

Nicolaas A. Van Beurden ELIZABETH CITY - Nicolaas "Nick" A. Van Beurden of 400 Inlet Drive, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 11, at his residence. Nick was born Sept. 13, 1942 in Malang, Indonesia to Franciscus X.M. Van Beurden and Maria J. Kappers-Van Beurden. His family returned to the Netherlands in 1950, and emigrated to the United States in 1960. Nick served four years in the U.S. Air Force, worked briefly at Xerox, and then joined IBM's personal computer division. He moved to Elizabeth City, in 1997 where he opened his own business installing and servicing computers and network systems and providing support services. Nick is survived by his daughter, Nicole A. Yarbrough of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his sister, Sonja W. Hibbard of the home; and his brother, Eric B. Van Beurden of Richfield, Minn. He also leaves behind a loving contingent of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many friends. Nick was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul R. Van Beurden. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Thomas Wilson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service, and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ones favorite charity.
